Kill the Housing Bill - protest 5 January parliament
2016 starts with a lively protest at Parliament on 5 January. A growing coalition is gathering as MPs debate the next stage of the Housing Bill.
A last-minute Government amendment to the Bill has angered many tenant groups. The Bill now threatens to remove council secure tenancies for all transferring, as well as for new tenants. Details in leaflet here and Briefing here. Protesters will rally outside Parliament at Old Palace Yard SW1A 0AA from 1pm, with speakers, banners and posters.
A protest meeting 5-7pm in Parliament Committee Room 11 will hear the case against the Housing Bill and for investment in council housing. The campaign is organised by Kill the Housing Bill -secure homes for all and Architects 4 Social Housing amd has the support of tenant groups across Britain, GMB and other trade union organisations, shadow chancellor John McDonnell, the Green Party and Caroline Lucas MP, the Radical Housing Network, councillors, traveller groups and more. 2016 starts with a lively protest at Parliament on 5 January.
