The fight for council housing is an urgent priority for millions. While homelessness and waiting lists grow, Government threats to housing benefit, rents and tenancies are creating more homelessness, evictions and insecurity.
Tenants, trade unions, politicians and campaigners are meeting on 30 June in Sheffield to work out the next steps in the fight for the homes we need. That means a mass investment programme in existing and new council housing for all who need and want it.
All who see council house building as a top priority and want to help make it happen are invited to come along, or send ideas. Plans so far include protests and lobbying at Party conferences, demanding Councils protect secure tenancies and non-market rents, meetings and street action locally, and direct action to stop privatisation, sell offs, demolition and evictions.
Come to the national meeting 12-4pm Sat 30 June in Sheffield Trades and Labour Club 200 Duke St, S2 5QQ. For details or to send a report or suggestions email info@defendcouncilhousing.org.uk.
